Estimated cost: R1001 – R5000
Field Of Study: Education
Department Name: Centre for Pedagogy

Objectives:

The ITiLANG short courses are designed to directly align to the South African Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) learning outcomes for language teaching generally. Course content is therefore immediately implementable and relevant to language teachers¿ and subject advisors¿ everyday work-life experiences. As can be seen in the course overview below, each module in the two courses focuses on a different CAPS specific topic and addresses ways in which teachers can integrate EdTechs to teach that topic. The Integrating Technologies in Languages (iTiLang) course was designed to equip language teachers with the skills, knowledge and competencies to integrate technologies in the pedagogies of teaching language at home, first or second additional language level. The ITiLang courses are presented in English and support is provided in English. However, the content presented in the courses can be applied to all language teaching, whether English, Afrikaans, isiXhosa or the like, and whether teaching at home, first or second additional language level. The topics chosen for each unit represent a broad spectrum of language content, from magazines, newspapers and multimedia texts, to poetry, drama and plays. Each of the 10 units in the course focuses on a different language skill, from listening and speaking, to reading, writing, performing and presenting including a section on assessing languages skills.
